PRESS STATEMENT.
April 5, 1919 .
Below is given the Federal Reserve Board's regular weekly statement of total
debits to deposit account, reported through the Federal Reserve banks by about
150 of the country' s more important clearing houses. Transactions cover the
weekly periods ending Wednesday March 26 and Wednesday April 2.
With the exception of the Chicago district, total debits to individual
account for all districts show considerable gains over those reported the
week before, the average increase for all reporting centers being in excess
of 13 per cent. Aggregate debits to bank account were below those shown
the week before, many of the large centers,including Philadelphia, New
Orleans, Detroit, St. Louis, Kansas City, Omaha and San Francisco,reporting
decreases for bank debits together with substantial increases in debits to
individual account.
The statement closes with a recapitulation giving comparative data by
reserve districts for 152 centers reporting complete data for both weeks.
