Apri.1 2, 1938

For immediate release

Debits to individual accounts , as reported by banks in leading cities for the
week ended March 30, aggregated $7,146,000,000, or 7 percent below the total re­
ported for the preceding week and 24 percent below the total for the corresponding
week of last year.
Aggregate debits for the l4l cities for which a separate total has been main­
tained since January 1919 amounted to $6 , 575 , 000, 000, compared with $7,014,000,000
the preceding week and $8,689,000,000 the week ended March 31 of last year.
