G.6 BOARD OF GOVERNORS OF THE FEDERAL RESERVE SYSTEM (For Immediate Release) April 12, 1954 BANK DEBITS TO DEMAND DEPOSIT ACCOUNTS Bank debits to demand deposit accounts, except interbank and Government accounts, as reported by banks in 3^5 leading centers for the month of March aggregated $171 billion. During the past three months debits amounted to $467 billion or 9.1 per cent above the total reported for the corresponding period a year ago. At banks in New York City there was an increase of 22,8 per cent compared with the corresponding three-months period a year ago; at 6 other centers the increase was 1.8 per cent; and at all other centers it was 1.5 per cent. Preliminary estimates of the annual rates of turnover of demand deposits in March are 44.6 at New York City, 27.6 at the 6 other centers, and 19.5 at all other centers.
