For immediate release May 27, 1964 H.12 COMMERCIAL AND INDUSTRIAL LOAMS OUTSTANDING BY INDUSTRY Commercial and industrial loans increased a net of $22 million at weeklyreporting member banks during the week ended May 20. The principal net increases were $32 million in loans to the retail trade, $27 million to the construction industry, and $23 million to manufacturers of transportation equipment. The larger offsetting net decreases were $19 million in loans to manufacturers of machinery and $18 million to the mining industry, which includes producers of petroleum and natural gas. The outstanding loans and changes during the week and since year-end are shown below; fourth column shows the changes during the comparable period last year.
