COMMERCIAL AND INDUSTRIAL LOANS OUTSTANDING BY INDUSTRY
Commercial and industrial loans increased in ten districts and a net of
$284 million at weekly reporting large commercial banks during the week ended June 4.
The principal net increases were $134 million in loans to "other" public
utilities, $115 million to "all other" types of business concerns, and $56 million
to retail trade.
The larger offsetting net decreases were $94 million in loans to foreign
commercial, and $69 million to commodity dealers.

COMMERCIAL AND INDUSTRIAL TERM LOANS OUTSTANDING BY INDUSTRY

Total business term loans were $30,883 million, as of May. This was an
increase of $3,004 million over the comparable data a year ago and an increase of
$137 million from the last Wednesday in April.
The principal changes increaing term loans during the month of May were
$85 million in loans to manufacturers of chemical and rubber products, and $46
million to manufacturers of food, liquor, and tobacco products.
The total of all business term loans on May 28, represented approximately
45 per cent of total of business loans outstanding at large commercial banks
reporting in the series.
