COMMERCIAL AND INDUSTRIAL LOANS OUTSTANDING BY INDUSTRY
Commercial and industrial loans decreased in all districts and a net of
$599 million at weekly reporting large commercial banks during the week ended
January 29.

The principal net decreases were $177 million in loans to manufacturers of
food, liquor, and tobacco products, $76 million to "other" public utilities, $63
million to the mining industry, which includes producers of petroleum and natural
gas, and $187 million to unclassified borrowers.
The largest offsetting net increase was $59 million in loans to
types of business concerns.
