COMMERCIAL AND INDUSTRIAL LOANS OUTSTANDING BY INDUSTRY
Commercial and industrial loans increased a net of $149 million at weekly

reporting large commercial banks during the week ended April 1.
The principal net increases were $55 million in loans to "all other" types
of business concerns, and $410 million to unclassified borrowers.
The larger offsetting net decreases were $162 million in loans to manufacturers
of machinery, $81 million to services, and $68 million to the mining in us

COMMERCIAL AND INDUSTRIAL TERM LOANS OUTSTANDING BY INDUSTRY

Total business term loans were $32,048 million as of March. This was
a decrease of $1,236 million over the comparable data a year ago and an increase
of $52 million from the last Wednesday in February.
The principal changes in term loans during March were increases of
$52 million in loans to manufacturers of machinery, $40 million to transportation,
and decreases of $91 million to manufacturers of chemicals and rubber products,
and $83 million to "other" public utilities.
The total of all business term loans on March 25 represented approximately 47 per cent of total of business loans outstanding at large commercial
banks reporting in the series.
