COMMERCIAL AND INDUSTRIAL LOANS OUTSTANDING BY INDUSTRY

Commercial and industrial loans increased a net of $285 million at weekly reporting
jaeniber banks during the week ended March 31.
The larger net increases were $54 million in loans to manufacturers of machinery,
453 million to manufacturers of food, liquor, and tobacco products, $40 million to "all
other" types of business concerns, $29 million to transportation, communication, and other
public utilities, and $28 million to the mining industry, which includes producers of
petroleum and natural gas.
Outstanding loans and changes from a week ago and a year ago are shown below;
-cumulative changes since year-end and during the comparable period last year are shown
in the last two columns.
