COMMERCIAL AND INDUSTRIAL LOANS OUTSTANDING BY INDUSTRY

Commercial and industrial loans increased a net of $856 million at weekly
reporting large commercial banks during the week ended April 15.
The principal net increases were $136 million in loans to manufacturers
of machinery, $103 million in bankers' acceptances, $267 million to retail trade,
and $349 million to unclassified borrowers.
The larger offsetting net decreases were $72 million in loans to "other"
public utilities, and $60 million to all "other*1 types of business concerns.
