CONSUMER INSTALMENT CREDIT AT COMMERCIAL BANKS , JULY 1966 Consumer instalment credit at commercial banks at the end of July ^amounted to__S31-.-398 million, representing an increase of $385 million during the month. All types of credit were larger than on June 30 but automobile and other consumer goods paper accounted for the major portipn of the expansion. The volume of credit extended was down in July as is customary at this time of the year. Loans made for nonautomotive consumer goods, however, showed considerable strength and were above the volume of the preceding month. Loans of this type also showed a substantial increase over the year-period while direct automobile loans fell off somewhat.
