DEPARTMENT STORE (CREDIT - JULY I963

stalment accounts receivable of department stores,, which
customarily show a small decline in July, were .down 2 per cent at
reporting stores, and remained-'well above the amount outstanding a.
year earlier. The 7 per cent decline in. charge • accounts receivable
reported in July also-^was due largely to seasonal influences. These
accounts were 2 per cent larger * than ;at the end of July 19o2. Both
instalment atid charge accounts were being paid at a somewhat faster
rate than in either the preceding .month or the corresponding month
last year.
Cash and credit sales of . reporting stores, showed less than the usual seasonal declines in July and substantial increases over the
1962 volume.
