DEPARTMENT STOREl CREDIT - SEPTEMBER 1965
Instalment accounts receivable, of reporting department stores increased 2 per cent in September, a month in which a slight increase is usual.
The amounts outstanding on these accounts so far this year have been running
substantially larger than in the corresponding months of 1964). The pace at
which these accounts were repaid remained unchanged from August, but was higher

than in September 1964.
Charge accounts outstanding showed more than the customary seasonal
increase in September, biit continued to register smaller year-to-year gains
than instalment credit outstanding.

Department store sales showed the largest September increase in

several years with both charge arid instalment sales up 11 per cent from a
month ago. Sales of all types were well above the corresponding month last
