CREDIT

Instalment accounts receivable of reporting department stores
increased slightly in June, a month of little seasonal change". However,
they were substantially larger than at the close of June 1964* In the
meantime, charge account balances registered a 3 per cent ..decrease from- May, but were 4 -per "cent iabove the corresponding figure .for last year*,.. • A moderate acceleration in collection ratios fot both: instarl^ ment and charge accounts occurred as usual in June. Fifty^-one per. cent,
of the charge account balances' .of June 1; were, paid- off during: the month,
?
against 48 per cent in the- preceding month.
-Sales reports, show the customary decline for June, .with the
largest.contraction in charge volume,. Instalment sales, however, remained at the same level as in May and recorded-an appreciable year- .
to-year gain.
