Instalment accounts outstanding a t r e p o r t i n g f u r n i t u r e s t o r e s
were about the same at the end of August a s a t the end of the previous
.month. They continued at 5 per cent below a year e a r l i e r . C o l l e c t i o n s
i n August amounted to 12 per cent of o u t s t a n d i n g s a t the beginning of the
month.
S a l e s a t r e p o r t i n g s t o r e s r o s e s e a s o n a l l y i n August, but f o r
January-August 1961 remained below a year ago. For t h i s nine month
period i n 1961, a smaller volume of instalment s a l e s more than o f f s e t
an i n c r e a s e i n cash s a l e s .
