Recently the level shown by this series has been much higher relative to pre-war than the level shown by factox*y sales of new passenger cars and trucks. The difference is accounted for in part by a sharp Increase in production of replacement parts and by other changes in the composition of output. It appears, however, that the series overstates the current'level of total output in these industries* Study is being made of production and man-hour statistics in an endeavor to arrlvo at a more accurate measure of overall production in these industries.
