Summers, Treasurer Mary Ellen Withrow and Secret Service Director Brian L. Stafford. Scheduled to be issued sometime in the middle of 2000, the new $10 and $5 bills include new and modified security features to deter counterfeiters. Because these two bills are widely used in many types of vending and other machines that dispense currency, additional emphasis will be placed on working with manufacturers and distributors of these devices to ensure a smooth transition when the new bills are issued. In addition, special seminars will be conducted for cash handlers to learn how they can discourage counterfeiting by closely examining all the bills they handle. The Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis will have a sample of each bill.
