U S r o (* 1 3 ST, LOUIS RESERVE BANK ELECTS N E W FIRST VICE PRESIDENT Frederick L. Deming was e le c te d F i r s t Vice P resident of the Federal Reserve Bank of S t. Louis by the Board of D irectors of the Bank, e f fe c tiv e January 1, 1953 December 31. He succeeds Olin M. A ttebery, who r e t i r e s from the Bank as of As sp e c ifie d in the Federal Reserve Act, the P resident and F i r s t Vice P resident of a Federal Reserve Bank are e le c te d by the Board of D irectors of the Bank, su b ject to the approval of the Board of Governors in Washington. Mr. Deming*s election has been so approved. The new F i r s t Vice P re sid e n t was born on September 12, 1912 in Des Hoines, Iowa, He was educated in the public schools of S t. Louis, Missouri and a t Washington U niversity, S t, Louis, from which he received an A,B. degree in l?3k, an A.M. in 1935, and a Ph.D. in economics in lpi.il. He jo in ed the s t a f f of the Federal Reserve Bank in August, 19^1 and has served successively as a s s i s t a n t manager and manager of the Research Department, A ssista n t Vice P re s i dent and Vice P resident. He i s m arried and has two sons. Mr. Actebery beg&n h is banking c a re e r in 19CU with the American Exchange Bark in S t, Louis, He has been with the Federal Reserve Bank of S t. Louis since 19lU, joining the Bank's s t a f f before the i n s t i t u t i o n was o f f i c i a l l y open fo r business. He has served as an o f f i c e r of the Bank since 1917 and has been F i r s t Vice President since January, 1951c He r e t i r e s under the provisions of the Retirement System of the Federal Reserve Banks,
