Lo u is 6 6 , M i s s o u r i June 24, I960 To Member Banks in the Eighth Federal R eserve D istrict: The form of drafts for use in drawing on your reserve account main tained with us or with one of our branches has been redesigned to include the routing symbol-transit number a s well as an account number code imprinted in magnetic ink in conformity with the recommendations of the ABA T ech nical Committee on Mechanization of Check Handling. A s p e c imen of the new draft is attached. In the in terest of furthering the program of electronic check handling, we will furnish for your use, without charge, a supply of new draft forms preprinted in magnetic ink. P l e a s e ad v ise us promptly on the order blank en clo se d , how many drafts you will require for a y e a r’s supply. The new drafts will be printed with new serial numbers beginning with No. 1, rather than continuing the number seq u en ce now in u se. In some in s ta n c e s in the p a s t, official title s have been printed under the signature line on the drafts. However, to facilitate printing the magnetic ink characters th is p ractice is being discontinued. Accordingly, the revised drafts will be printed only with "A uthorized Signature” under the signature line. It will take about thirty to sixty day s for delivery of the new drafts after the receipt of your order. Upon receipt of such drafts, you will be requested to return to us the unused stock of old drafts you have on hand at that time. Until the new drafts have been printed, we will continue to supply drafts in the present form. However, we ask that you p lease re s tric t interim orders to approximately two months’ usage. DELOS C.
