f r r s n Federal R eserve Ba n N , N .Y. ew Y o r k AREA CO DE 212 k of N ew Yo r k 10045 R E 2 -5 7 0 0 (d5) February J, 19 67 COUNTERFEIT FEDERAL RESERVE NOTES To All Banks in the Second Federal Reserve District: New counterfeit $20 Federal Reserve notes that purport to be issues of several Federal Reserve Banks are now appearing in volume in this District. The U. S. Secret Service advises us that the counterfeits are fairly deceptive. In most cases the shading lines of Jackson's portrait are coarse and heavy and the cross-ruled lines in the background often merge into a solid black. Some of the counterfeits bear red printed lines to simulate the dis tinctive fiber. On the reverse side, the ink varies from a dull yellow-green to a green shade approximating that of the genuine note. Other known informa tion concerning the counterfeit notes is listed on the reverse side of this letter. All counterfeit currency received from any source should be marked for identification and forwarded promptly, together with any information concerning the source of such notes, to the nearest office of the U. S. Secret Service, rather than to Washington, D. C. In this District, the Secret Service has offices in Room 801, Federal Office Building, 90 Church Street, New York, N.Y. 10007; in the Main Post Office Building, Syracuse, N.Y. 13201; in the United States Court House, Buffalo, N.Y. 14202; and in the Post Office Building, Federal Square, Newark, N.J. 07102.
