FEDERAL RESERVE BANK OF NEW YORK r Circular No. 969 "1 L March 18, 1930 J New Counterfeit To all Banks, Trust Companies and Others Concerned in the Second Federal Reserve District: The Treasury Department in its circular letter No. 638 describes a new counterfeit as follows: ^ $20 FEDERAL RESERVE NOTE (New Series) On the Federal Reserve Bank of Minneapolis, Minnesota; 1928 series; check letter " B " ; face plate number indistinct, probably 4; back plate number indistinct, probably 48; H. T. Tate, Treasurer of the United States; A. W. Mellon, Secretary of the Treasury ; portrait of Jackson. There has been detected in the Pacific northwest section this photo-mechanical production printed from crudely etched plates on one sheet of paper, the workmanship being of such poor quality that the note should be easily identified as counterfeit. V The face and back plates are about one-fourth of an inch shorter than the genuine and the note itself is correspondingly short. The printing on the back is lightly impressed, to such an extent that the design is only faintly delineated, while the face discloses a smudgy appearance, with the portrait of Jackson barely recognizable. Several of these notes have appeared bearing the same serial number—100317330A. The Treasury Department, Secret Service Division, requests that banks and others to whom counterfeit Government obligations may be presented endeavor when practicable to obtain information regarding their source and history. Any information of this kind should be forwarded to the Treasury Department, Secret Service Division, Customs House, New York, N. Y. (xEOBGE L . H A E E I S O N , Governor.
