CHANGES IN U.S. POSTAL M ONEY ORDERS
To All Depository Institutions in the Second
Federal Reserve District, and Others Concerned:

We have been informed by the United States Postal Service that it is phasing in a new checksize money order. The check-size money order is being adopted to reduce the cost of producing and
processing money order forms. The old and new forms are the same length and conform to Ameri­
can National Standard Institute check standards. The new form, however, has a routing number of
0000-0800-2, is only 2 3A inches wide, and has major graphic changes. Printed on the following
pages is an excerpt from the Postal Bulletin Notice describing the changes and illustrating the old
and new money order.
The old form of money orders continues to be valid and will be used until present supplies are
depleted.

country has an agreement to transact domesticinternational money order business with the United
States. An International money order service is

BY THE UNITED STATES UNLESS THEIR COUNTRY HAS AN AGREE­
MENT TO TRANSACT DOMESTIC-INTERNATIONAL MONEY ORDER
