FEDERAL RESERVE BANK OF NEW YORK — fCircular No. 905*1 LMarch 2. 1929J New Counterfeit To all Banks, Trust Companies and Others Concerned in the Second Federal Reserve District: The Treasury Department in its circular letter No. 623 describes a newcounterfeit as follows: $10 FEDERAL RESERVE NOTE: On the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City, Missouri; series of 1914; check letter " H " ; face plate No. 97; back plate No. 1435; Frank White, Treasurer of the United States; A. "W. Mellon, Secretary of the Treasury; portrait of Jackson. This counterfeit is printed from photo-mechanical plates on two sheets of paper between which threads have been distributed in imitation of the genuine silk fibre. The face is heavily printed, the black ink almost completely submerging the fine white lines in the border lathework, and the portrait background is correspondingly heavy. The face and back both have absorbed the oil from the inking process, giving the note a greasy appearance. The numbering and seal are well executed as compared with other characteristics of the counterfeit. Specimen at hand bears serial number J14892776A. This counterfeit should not deceive the wary handler of currency. GEORGE L. HAERISON, Governor.
