FEDERAL RESERVE BANK OF NEW YORK C ir cu la r N o. 9 0 4 5 A p r il 1, 1981 Change in Maximum Value of Postal Money Orders To All Depository Institutions in the Second Federal Reserve District, and Others Concerned: We have been advised by the United States Postal Service that the maximum value of United States Postal money orders (domestic and military) has been increased from $400 to $500. In addition, the U.S.P.S. seal, and the maximum value, will no longer be printed on the front of money orders. Therefore, the statement “Void Without USPS Seal” on the front of the money order is no longer applicable. When cashing Postal money orders, you should, of course, continue to examine them for alterations or erasures. If you have any questions regarding this matter, please contact your local Postmaster.
