The Federal Reserve Board today approved a reduction in the discount rate from 11% to 10%,
effective Monday, July 28. The action is a purely technical adjustment to bring the discount rate into
alignment with the level of short-term market interest rates and bank lending rates.
In making the change, the Board acted on requests from the directors of the Federal Reserve Banks
of New York, Cleveland, Richmond, Atlanta, Chicago, St. Louis, Minneapolis, Kansas City, Dallas and San
Francisco. The discount rate is the interest rate that is charged for borrowings from the district Federal
Reserve Banks.
