f Circular No. 887*1
LNovember 17. 1928J

New Counterfeit

To all Banks, Trust Companies and Others Concerned
in the Second Federal Reserve District:

The Treasury Department in its circular letter No. 615 describes a new
counterfeit as follows:
$5 FEDERAL RESERVE NOTE: On the Federal Reserve Bank of New York,
New York; 1914 series; check letter " A " ; face plate No. 1783; back plate No. 3899;
Frank White, Treasurer of the United States; A. W. Mellon, Secretary of the Treasury;
portrait of Lincoln.
>->.

This is a photo-mechanical production printed on one sheet of paper without any
attempt at imitating the silk fibre. The fine lines in the border lathework on both face
and back are merged in spots where faulty etching failed to accentuate this characteristic. The seal and numbering are executed in a dull blue tone, while the back is
printed in a shade of green which reflects a faded appearance. Specimen at hand
bears serial No. B63630101D.
This counterfeit should not deceive the careful handler of currency.

Very truly yours,
GATES W. MCGAKKAH,

Acting Governor.
