FEDERAL RESERVE BANK OF NEW YORK Cash Department T Circular No. 886~l L November 16. 1928J New Counterfeits To all Banks, Trust Companies and Others Concerned in the Second Federal Reserve District: The Treasury Department in its circular letter No. 614 describes two new counterfeits as follows: $5 FEDERAL RESERVE NOTE: On the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco, California; series of 1914; check letter " G " ; face plate No. 532; back plate number indistinct; Frank White, Treasurer of the United States; A. W. Mellon, Secretary of the Treasury; portrait of Lincoln; serial No. L77187419A. $5 NATIONAL BANK NOTE: On the United States National Bank of Portland, Oregon; 1902 series; check letter " K " ; bank number (upper right and lower left corners), 180378; W. T. Vernon, Register of the Treasury; Lee Me Clung, Treasurer of the United States; portrait of Harrison; charter No. 4514. The two notes above described are the handiwork of the same counterfeiter, both being photo-mechanical productions printed on 3 sheets of paper between which tiny silk threads have been distributed, the fibre being much finer than that appearing in the genuine. The face and back are printed on Japanese rice paper, the threads adhering to the middle sheet, which is slightly thicker, and showing through the binding sheets in imitation of the genuine fibre. These counterfeits have a faded appearance and should not deceive the wary handler of currency. Very truly yours, GATES W. MCGAERAH, Acting Governor. V
