Following is the text of a statem ent issued by the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve
System, announcing that it is seeking from the public the names of qualified individuals to hll
several upcoming vacancies on the Board's Consumer A dvisory Council:
The Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System announced today [/M/y zy] that it is seeking
advice from the public as to qualified persons to fill upcoming vacancies on the Board's Consumer Advisory
Council.
The Board asked for suggestions by September 1, 1978.
The terms of nine of the 28 current members of the Council (listed below) expire December 31, 1978.
New appointments will be for terms of three years.
The Consumer Advisory Council, representative of the interests of both consumers and creditors, advises
the Board on its responsibilities under the Consumer Credit Protection Act and other consumer-related
matters. The Council generally meets with the Board four times yearly. Its meetings are open to the public.
The Board asked that suggestions be accompanied by biographical data such as indicated on the attached
form. With certain exceptions pertaining to privacy, this information will be available to the public, upon request,
for inspection and copying.

Solicitation of Suggestions for Members of Consumer Advisory Council

The Board of Governors is seeking suggestions from the public for the names of qualified individuals to fill
vacancies on its Consumer A dvisory Council resulting from expiring terms of nine of its members on December
31, 1978. The Consumer A dvisory Council has the responsibility to advise and consult with the Board in the areas
of the Board's functions under the Consumer Credit Protection A ct and other consumer-related matters. The Coun­
cil should be representative of the interests of both creditors and consumers.
Generally, meetings of the Council are held quarterly and are usually a day and a half in duration. Listed below

Suggestions should be submitted in writing to the Secretary, Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve
System, W ashington, D .C . 20551, and should be received not later than September 1, 1978. In submitting sugges­
tions, it would be helpful if biographical information along the lines of the information requested on the form printed
below could be submitted also. Such information will be made available for inspection and copying upon request,
except as provided in § 2 6 1 .6 ( a ) of the Board's Rules Regarding Availability of Information.
The Consumer A dvisory Council was established by Congress, at the suggestion of the Board, in amend­
ments to the Equal Credit Opportunity A ct of 1976. For convenient reference, the applicable provision of the A ct
fo llow s:
" ' ( b ) The Board shall establish a Consumer A dvisory Council to advise and consult with it in the exercise
of its functions under the Consumer Credit Protection A ct and to advise and consult with it concerning other
consumer related matters it may place before the Council. In appointing members of the Council, the Board shall
seek to achieve a fair representation of the interests of creditors and consumers. The Council shall meet from time to
time at the call of the Board. Members of the Council who are not regular full-time employees of the United
States shall, while attending meetings of such Council, be entitled to receive compensation at a rate Axed by the
Board, but not exceeding $100 per day, including travel time. Such members may be allowed travel expenses,
including transportation and subsistence, while away from their homes or regular place of business/ "
