FEDERAL RESERVE BANK
OF NEW YORK

Cash Department

[Circular No. 7491
LNovember 23, 1926J

New Counterfeit
To all Banks, Trust Companies and Others Concerned
in the Second Federal Reserve District:

The Treasury Department in its circular letter No. 585 describes a new
counterfeit as follows:
$5 Federal Reserve Note
On the Federal Reserve Bank of New York, N. Y., series 1914; check letter
" F " ; face plate No. 1495; back plate number indistinct (probably 3533); Frank
White, Treasurer of the United States; A. W. Mellon, Secretary of the Treasury; portrait of Lincoln.
This is a crudely etched counterfeit printed on a single sheet of paper without
threads to imitate the silk fibre. The serial number—B36442122D—appears in black ink
and was executed in the plate in the etching operation, while the seal is revealed in
indigo blue with the circular inscription inverted. The back plate is printed in a bright
grass green. This note is so palpably counterfeit that it should not deceive the ordinarily careful handler of currency.

Very truly yours,
BBNJ. STBONG,

Governor.
