FEDERAL RESERVE BANK
OF NEW YORK

f Circular No. 7461
[_ October 18, 1926J

Cash Department

New Counterfeit
To all Banks, Trust Companies and Others Concerned
in the Second Federal Reserve District:

The Treasury Department in its circular letter Xo. 584 describes a new
counterfeit as follows:
$20 National Bank Note
On the First National Bank of Cincinnati, Ohio; series 1902; check letter " E " ;
charter No. 24; Treasury No. T970180B; bank number 48411; back plate No. 284;
J. W. Lyons, Register of the Treasury; Ellis H. Roberts, Treasurer of the United
States; portrait of Hugh McCulloch.
This counterfeit is a crudely executed production etched from zinc plates and
printed on two sheets of paper. No attempt is made at imitating the silk threads in
the genuine. The numbering on the face, and the seal are printed in a pale, dull blue,
the portrait is smudgy in appearance and the fine lines in the border lathework merge
in the faulty engraving operation. The back is printed in a bright green. The signatures of the bank officials appear to have been executed by hand in pale blue ink.
This counterfeit is so crude that it should not deceive anyone accustomed to
handling currency.

Very truly yours,
BENJ. STBONO,

Governor,
