Availability of Certain Financial Reports Filed by Banks
To A ll M em ber Banks, and Others Concerned,
in the Second Federal Reserve District:

T he following statement was m ade public April 23 by the Board o f Governors o f the Federal Reserve
System:

The Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System today announced the procedures to be used in
making publicly available two financial reports filed by State member banks with the System.
Earlier this year, the Board announced that it would make the reports — the annual Reports o f Income and
the detailed quarterly Condition Report schedules of loans, cash assets, demand and time deposits and other
assets and liabilities — available to the public upon request. Previously only the face of the Condition Report
had been available for public inspection.
The first of the reports to be made available under the new procedures are the Reports o f Income for 1972
and the detailed Condition Reports for year-end 1972. No earlier reports will be made available in this way.
However, the face of the Condition Report (without the detailed supporting data) has been available since
m id-1972 in magnetic tape form for all insured commercial banks beginning with the reports for June 1960.
The Board will fill requests for reports o f individual State member banks and also for all insured
commercial banks. Requests for reports of individual national banks or individual insured nonmember banks
will be forwarded to the Comptroller of the Currency or the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation; these
agencies are making publicly available the reports of banks under their supervision.
The reports to be made available by the Board for individual banks are edited reports, incorporating both
changes submitted by the banks themselves or made by the supervisory agencies for statistical purposes. The
Board does not accept responsibility for the completeness, accuracy, or adequacy o f the original report or of
amendments.
The Board will also make available upon request magnetic tapes containing the reports of all insured
commercial banks — State member, national, and insured nonmember banks. All of the reports on these tapes
will be on the same edited basis as the reports used to meet requests for individual banks.
Requests for individual reports and for all-banks tapes should be submitted in writing to the Board of
Governors of the Federal Reserve System, Washington, D.C., 20551. The State member bank individual reports,
but not the tapes, may also be requested in writing from the appropriate Federal Reserve Banks. Individual
bank reports for the year-end 1972 will be available in early May; the all-banks tapes for year-end 1972 will be
available shortly thereafter. Subsequent reports must be requested separately. No mailing list will be maintained
for automatic distribution of future reports.
Requests for reports o f individual State member banks should specify the name and location of each bank
and the reports desired — the Report o f Income or Report of Condition (with or without the supporting
schedules) and the date o f the reports desired. Requests for the all-banks tapes should also state the specific
reports desired and the date of the reports. Requests for magnetic tapes for the face of the Condition Reports
(which are available on a standardized format without the supporting schedules for each June and December
from June 1960 to June 1972) should state the years desired. Beginning with the reports for December 1972, the
Reports of Condition and the supporting schedules will be on a single tape for each date; the Reports of Income
for each date will be on a separate tape.
Copies of reports for individual banks may be obtained for 10 cents per standard page for copying plus a
fee o f $5 an hour for locating the requested reports. The charge for the all-banks tapes is $50 per tape.
Additional copies o f this circular will be furnished upon request.
