New Counterfeits
To all Banks, Trust Companies and Savings Banks
in the Second Federal Reserve District:

The Treasury Department in its circular letter No. 570 describes three new
counterfeits as follows:
$10 Federal Reserve Note
' ' On the Federal Reserve Bank of New York; series 1914; face plate No. 443; back
plate number omitted; Carter Glass, Secretary of the Treasury; John Burke, Treasurer of the United States; portrait of Jackson.
"This is a poorly made production from lithographic plates on two pieces of paper
between which coarse threads have been distributed to imitate the genuine. The general appearance of the note is off-color, having a greenish tone which is reflected from
the back. The Jackson portrait is dull and without lustre, while the seal is poorly
reproduced in pale blue. The type style of the serial number differs from the genuine
in the manner described in Circular No. 567* and the maker of this note is
undoubtedly responsible for the note described in Circular No. 567. This counterfeit
will deceive the unwary handler of currency."
$50 Federal Reserve Note
"On the Federal Eeserve Bank of New York; series 1914; check letter ' D ' ; face
plate number indistinct; back plate number not discernible; D. F. Houston, Secretary of the Treasury; John Burke, Treasurer of the United States; portrait of Grant."
$100 Federal Reserve Note
"On the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston; series 1914; check letter ' D ' ; face plate
No. 3; back plate No. 27; Carter Glass, Secretary of the Treasury; John Burke, Treasurer of the United States; portrait of Franklin.
"Both of the above-described counterfeits are photographic productions on one
piece of paper on which red and blue ink lines have been penned to imitate the silk
fibre, and are no doubt the handiwork of the same persons. The serial number of the
counterfeit $50 note at hand is B312763A The counterfeit $100 note bears serial
number A501440A. The finely engraved lathework in the border of the genuine and
the delicate etching in the portrait appear smudgy in the counterfeits. Both of these
counterfeits should be readily detected."

Very truly yours,
BENJ. STRONG,

Governor.
