Change in Procedures on Requests for Refunds
of Paid Government Checks
To the Member and Nonmcmber Clearing Banks
of the Second Federal Reserve District:

Currently, when the Treasury Department makes a request for a refund
o f a paid Government check, it sends two copies o f the request to the pre­
senting bank and the triplicate and quadruplicate copies to the Federal R e­
serve Bank through which the check was collected. The Treasury Department
has now notified us that, beginning November 15, all four copies o f the request
will be sent to the presenting bank, with a notice that the triplicate and quadru­
plicate copies should be sent with its refund remittance to the Federal Reserve
Bank. W e ask that you direct these copies and your remittance to the atten­
tion o f the Collection Division at our Head Office or to the Collection, Loans,
and Fiscal Agency Division at our Buffalo Branch. The notices will accompany
the requests until the present form is revised.
A fter November 15, we will no longer maintain files on new reclamation
cases, and all correspondence, such as requests for payment status or photo­
copies o f paid Government checks, should be sent directly to the Treasury, ad­
dressed as follow s:
