The following statement was made public today by the Treasury Department:
INTEREST RATE ON $ 1 -1 /4 BILLION TREASURY NOTES SERIES D-1976
The Treasury announced today a 6-1/4% per annum interest rate for the
$ 1 -1 /4 billion of Treasury Notes of Series D-1976 announced on August 25 for
auction on Tuesday, August 31. The series title for these notes will be 6 -1 /4
percent Treasury Notes of Series D-1976. The CUSIP number is 912827 CK6.

In the fourth paragraph of the "Details of Treasury Announcement" of this
offering, as shown in our Circular No. 6791, dated and sent to you yesterday,
the third sentence reads "Tenders at a price less than 9.86 will not be accepted."
This is incorrect. It should have read "Tenders at a price less than 98.76 will
not be accepted."
