FE D E R A L R E S E R V E BANK O F N E W YORK C i r c u l a r N o . 6562 J u n e 24, 1970 [ 1 PAR CLEARANCE O F CHECKS DRAWN ON ALL BANKS IN M ISSISSIPPI, E F F E C T IV E JU LY 1, 1970 To the M em ber B a n k s and N o n m e m b e r C le a r in g B a n k s o f the S e c o n d F ed e ra l R e s e r v e D is tr ic t: We have been informed by the Federal R eserve Banks of St. Louis and Atlanta that, effective July 1, 1970, checks drawn on all banks in M ississippi may be cleared through the Federal R eserve System. This has been made possible by action of the 1968 M ississippi State Legislature providing for par clearance. Part of the State of M ississippi is served by the Memphis Branch of the Federal R eserve Bank of St. Louis and part is served by the New Orleans Branch of the Fed eral R eserve Bank of Atlanta. Until present check supplies are exhausted, checks drawn on the form erly nonpar M ississippi banks will bear routing symbol 9085. Newly printed checks w ill bear routing symbol 842 (MICR encoded 0842) for those banks assigned to the Memphis Branch, and 653 (MICR encoded 0653) for those banks assigned to the New Orleans Branch. Printed on the following pages are two lis ts of M ississippi banks, together with their nonpar routing sym bols and ABA numbers, one showing banks located in the Memphis Branch territory and the other showing banks located in the New Orleans Branch territory. Checks bearing the nonpar routing symbol 9085 and the ABA num b ers of banks located in the Memphis territory may be commingled with checks bearing routing symbol 842 (MICR encoded 0842) as deferred-credit item s in cash letters scheduled to arrive at the Memphis Branch on and after July 1, 1970.
