Matured Unregistered War Savings Certificates (Stamps)
Series of 1918 and 1919

To all Banks, Trust Companies and Savings Banks

Under a recent ruling of the Treasury Department unregistered War Savings
Certificates of the Series of 1918 and Series of 1919, which matured January 1,1923,
and January 1, 1924, respectively, will be paid only hy the Treasurer of the United
States at Washington. Therefore all such certificates which may be presented to
us by the hanks or the public will be forwarded in the future to the Treasurer of the
United States as payment by this bank was discontinued on November 6, 1924 in
accordance with the ruling.
Counterfeit Stamps
A counterfeit War Savings Stamp, Series of 1919, has recently made its appearance. As this series of stamps matured January 1,1924, it is suggested as protection
for your bank that you take, for collection only, all stamps presented, and that you
present them to this bank together with the name and address of the person or firm
presenting the stamps. All War Savings Certificates must bear the stamp of the
presenting bank.
Registered War Savings Certificates of the Series of 1918 and Series of 1919
will continue as in the past to be paid only at the post office of registration.
