FEDERAL RESERVE BANK
OF NEW YORK

["Circular No. 599"]

Cash Department

New Counterfeit $10 Federal Reserve Note
To all Banks, Trust Companies and Savings Banks
in the Second Federal Reserve District:
"ยป

The Treasury Department in its circular letter No. 536 describes a new counterfeit $10 Federal Reserve note as follows:
1

' On the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco, California; check
letter ' C ; plate number indistinct; D. F. Houston, Secretary of the
Treasury; John Burke, Treasurer of the United States; portrait of
Jackson. This counterfeit is apparently printed from crudely etched
plates on genuine paper obtained by bleaching bills of lower denomination. The work is so poor, particularly that of the portrait of Jackson,
that the bill should be readily detected. The number of the specimen
at hand is L20158719A. The figures of this number are very much out
of alignment and poorly formed. In fact they would appear to have
been hand-made. The back of the bill presents a better appearance than
the face, but this is so poorly printed that the fine lathe work lines in
the border can not be traced."

Very truly yours,
BENJ. STRONG,

Governor.
