FEDERAL RESERVE BANK OF NEW YORK Fiscal Agent of the United States r Circular No. 5 3 2 7 L April 19, 1963 Taxpayer Identifying Numbers on Series H and K Savings Bonds Issued in Coownership Form To All Banking Institutions, and Others Concerned, in the Second Federal Reserve District: Our Circular No. 5290, dated January 24, 1963, transmitted a letter of the Treasury Department, requesting banking institutions submitting applications for Series H savings bonds to be issued in coownership form to furnish the Social Security number of the first-named coowner. This requirement has now been modified by the Treasury Department to conform it to the requirements of the Internal Revenue Service. Consequently, on applications for issues of H bonds and reissues of H and K bonds in coownership form, the Social Security number o f either coowner may be furnished, except that when the coowners are husband and wife, the number of the husband should be furnished, and when the coowners are an adult and a minor, the number of the adult should be furnished. As to outstanding Series H and K savings bonds, the Treasury Department has informed us that it plans to request holders to furnish taxpayer identifying numbers. A lfred H ayes, President.
