New Counterfeit $5 Federal Reserve Note
To all Banks, Trust Companies and Savings Banks
in the Second Federal Reserve District:

The Treasury Department in its circular letter No. 498 describes a new counterfeit $5 Federal Reserve note as follows:
"On the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago, Illinois; check letter * D ' ;
plate number indistinct, but looks like 394; D. F. Houston, Secretary of
the Treasury; John Burke, Treasurer of the United States; portrait of Lincoln.
"This is a poorly etched production on a single piece of paper with
a few ink lines on the face of the bill to imitate the silk fibre of the
genuine.

It should be readily detected, and is not deemed worthy of a

more detailed description."

Very truly yours,
