N E W L Y DESIGNED ONE-CENT COIN

To Each Bank and Trust Company in the
Second Federal Reserve D istrict:

In observance o f the sesquicentennial celebration o f Abraham
L in coln ’ s birthday, the D irector o f the Mint, with the approval o f the
Secretary o f the Treasury, has made a perm anent change in the design
o f the one-cent coin. The portrait o f L incoln on the face o f the coin will
remain unchanged, but the reverse side w ill now portray the Lincoln
Memorial.
The T reasury D epartm ent has supplied us with a limited amount
o f the new one-cent coin fo r initial distribution in this D istrict. T o
distribute the lim ited amount equitably, we have made allotments to
all banks and trust com panies in the D istrict. The amount allotted to
you r institution and now available is stated below. The amount
requested w ill be forw a rded to a member or nonmember clearing bank
upon receipt o f authorization to charge its reserve or clearing account,
and to a nonmember bank upon receipt o f im m ediately available funds.
Please do not include orders fo r the newly designed one-cent coin
in other orders sent to this Bank fo r coin or currency.
