Stolen Government Checks
To all Member Banks in the Second
Federal Reserve District:
A number of checks of the disbursing officer for the Department of Justice at
Leavenworth Prison, Kansas, have been stolen. The details in connection with the
theft are sent to you at the request of the Treasury Department as follows :
"Disbursing officer checks, Serial Nos. 3846-0386-4000; Symbol N o .
3269, W. I . Biddle, Disbursing Officer for Department of Justice at Leavenworth Prison, were stolen and are being cashed in sums ranging from $125
to $235. All checks so far used have been made payable to G. E . Bates,
and have been cashed at banks bearing no second endorsement. Have any
person presenting checks described arrested."
