To all Banking Institutions in the
Second Federal Reserve District:

Supplementing information given in our circulars Nos. 1194, 1198, 1201, 1203, 1208,
1212, 1217, and 1223, the following additions should be made to the list of banking
institutions in the Second Federal Reserve District which have been licensed to resume
full banking operations:

The Treasury Department i n i t s c i r c u l a r l e t t e r No. 665 dated May 9, 1933,
d e s c r i b e s two new c o u n t e r f e i t s as f o l l o w s :

This i s a f a i r l y deceptive c o u n t e r f e i t p r i n t e d on one sheet of
bond paper from photoHnechanical p l a t e s of good workmanship. The
Lincoln p o r t r a i t , however, i s etched t o o h e a v i l y and i n t h e p r i n t i n g
p r o c e s s i t i s produced i n a darker shade than any other p a r t of t h e
face of t h e n o t e , and i s g e n e r a l l y smudgy* The s e a l and numbering a r e
e x p e r t l y p r i n t e d . This c o u n t e r f e i t c a r r i e s varying s e r i a l numbers,
specimen at hand showing B54362841A.

This is a dangerous production printed on bleached genuine paper
excellently etched photo-mechanical p l a t e s . In the portrait the
side of Jackson's face is faintly shaded and the chin is narrowed
dark line formed by the inner edge of the coat lapel against the
Specimen at hand bears serial number K03164512A.

Care should be exercised in handling notes of this variety and
denomination, as t h i s counterfeit will deceive the average person.
The Treasury Department, Secret Service Division, requests that banks and
others to whom counterfeit Government obligations may bo presented endeavor when
practicable to obtain information regarding their source and history. Any information of t h i s kind should be forwarded to the Treasury Department, Secret Service
Division, Customs House, New York, N. Y.
