July 26. 1932 J New Design Quarters In Commemoration of Bicentennial Anniversary of Birth of George Washington Limited Supply Now Available for Distribution To each Bank and Trust Company in the Second Federal Reserve District: To commemorate the two hundredth anniversary of the birth of George Washington the Secretary of the Treasury has changed the design of the twentyfive-cent piece so that the portrait of George Washington appears on it as authorized in the Act of Congress approved March 4, 1931, and the Treasury Department has furnished this bank with a limited amount of such twenty-five-cent pieces for distribution in the Second Federal Reserve District. The Act of Congress provides that the new coins shall be issued for general circulation beginning in 1932, the year of the said bicentennial anniversary. In order that each bank in this district may receive an equitable share of the small amount of these coins on hand, an allotment of them has been made and the amount set aside for your institution is stated below. Beginning August 1,1932, the amount requested will be forwarded to a member bank upon receipt of instructions to charge its reserve account, or to a nonmember bank upon receipt of immediately available funds.
