AND ANCH B u lle t in November 1963 Vol. 18, No. 11 TEXAS FARM AND RANCH CREDIT SCHOOL FOR COMMERCIAL BANKERS Texas A&M University, November 25-27 A g r i c u l t u r a l O u t l o o k a n d P o l i c y — An economist with the Texas Agricultural Extension Service will highlight the outlook for agriculture in 1964, and the President of the Federal Land Bank of Houston will give his views on whether farm real estate is a good investment. A panel com posed of farm management specialists from various sections of the State will discuss the resources needed for an economic-size farming and ranch ing unit. A nother panel, composed of the heads of three Texas farm organizations, will present ideas on the kinds of farm programs we should have. The Director of the World Trade Center at Houston will speak on developments in international trade. The Honorable W. R. Poage, U. S. Congressman, will be a featured speaker; his topic will be the “Impact of Politics on Agriculture.” Part of the program will be devoted to a discussion of some of the more recent developments in the Texas livestock industry. There is considerable interest throughout the State in the operation of small feedlots, and the president of a north Texas bank will speak on the subject “A Banker Looks at Small Feedlots — Their Operation, How They Are Financed, Etc.” An innovation affecting cattle marketing and financing is the warehousing of cattle, which will be discussed by a representative of the Texas Livestock Marketing Association and the National Finance Credit Corporation. A livestock marketing specialist with the Texas Agricultural Extension Service will review the impact of meat imports on the meat industry. N e w I n f l u e n c e s i n t h e L iv e s t o c k I n d u s t r y — C o u n t r y B a n k M a n a g e m e n t P r o b l e m s — Bank management is faced with the task of meeting the increasingly large and complex credit needs of farmers and ranchers. Several topics are included in the program to help bankers understand some of the aspects of new legislation affecting agricultural lending and to indicate ways through which they can better serve their agricultural customers.
