U.S. INTERNATIONAL TRANSACTIONS—Continued
In the private capital accounts, U.S. claims on foreigners reported by U.S. banks increased $34.7 billion in the first
quarter of 1982, compared with a $42.7 billion increase in the fourth quarter of 1981. Much of the increase,
$25.1 billion, reflected activity of International Banking Facilities (IBFs), which were authorized in December 1981.
