The Member Bank Call Report is published following each official call upon member banks of the Fed
eral Reserve System for statements of their condition. It contains tables showing assets and liabilities and
a classification1 of loans, investments, and deposits for all member banks (national and State) in the coun
try as a whole, by Federal Reserve districts and by classes of banks. Tables are also given, by reserve cities
and States, showing assets and liabilities of member banks.
Member banks are classed according to the reserves which they are required to carry. Some banks
classed as “ country banks” are in outlying sections of reserve cities or central reserve cities, and some banks
classed as “ reserve city banks” are in the outlying sections of central reserve cities. Figures for each class
of banks include assets and liabilities of their domestic branches, whether located within or outside the
cities in which the parent banks are located.
All figures included in this report relating to the condition of national banks were furnished by the
Comptroller of the Currency. The abstract of condition reports of national banks issued by the Comptrol
ler gives detailed statistical data regarding the condition of national banks.

1On some call dates a “ short form” of member bank call report is used; on such dates the loan and investm ent classifications
and some other details are not available.

Demand balances with banks in United States, except private banks and American branches of foreign banks, plus cash items in process of collection.
The difference between the figures shown in this column and the figures shown against the corresponding captions under “ Assets” is accounted for by an
excess of allowable deductions over gross demand deposits a t a number of banks.
^ Reserves actually required are based on deposits a t opening of business. The figures in this column, therefore, represent the reserves required to be
m aintained on the business day following the call date. Pursuant to the provisions of law, the Board of Governors or the Federal Reserve System pre
scribed the following requirements as to reserves to be maintained by each member bank effective Oct. 3, 1942. Time deposits—6 per cent for all member
banks; N et demand deposits—20 per cent for Central reserve city banks, 20 per cent for Reserve city banks, and 14 per cent for Country banks.
As reported by member banks. These figures differ from those shown by the Federal Reserve Banks* books because of a lack of synchronization of
entries on the books of the Federal Reserve Banks and the member banks.
