M EM BER B A N K CALL R E P O R T is pub-

lished following each official call upon member banks
for statements of their condition.

It contains tables

showing assets and liabilities and a classification of
loans, investments, and deposits for all member banks
(national and State) in the country as a whole, by
Federal Reserve districts and by classes of banks.
Tables are also given, by States and cities, showing
assets and liabilities for all member banks.

All

figures included in this report relating to the condi
tion of national banks were furnished by the Comp
troller of the Currency. The abstract of condition
reports of national banks issued by the Comptroller
gives detailed statistical data regarding the condition
of national banks.

1 Demand balances with domestic banks, except private banks and American branches of foreign banks, plus cash items in process of collection.
The difference between the figures shown in this column and the figures shown against the corresponding captions under “ Assets” is accounted
for b y an excess of allowable deductions over gross demand deposits at a number of banks.
2 Reserves actually required are based on deposits at opening of business. The figures in this column, therefore, represent the reserves required
to be maintained on the business day following the call date. Pursuant to the provisions of law, the Board 6 f Governors of the Federal Reserve
System prescribed the following requirements as to reserves to be maintained by each member bank effective at the opening of business April 16,
1938: Tim e deposits— 5 percent for all member banks; Net demand deposits— 2 2 % percent for Central Reserve city banks, 17*4 percent for Reserve
city banks and 12 percent for Country banks.

banks, respectively, reported b y one bank that has no commercial department.
