Federal Reserve b a n k OF DALLAS March 1, 1965 To All Banks in the Eleventh Federal Reserve District: The most recent survey by Federal Reserve banks to measure commercial bank participation in the Magnetic Ink Character Recognition Program of the American Bankers Association indicates th at 92 percent of the checks cleared through the Federal Reserve System are preprinted in magnetic ink with the identification num bers of the banks on which they are drawn. Of the checks cleared through Reserve bank offices in this district 85 percent are preprinted, an increase of 6 percentage points during the past year. The MICR pro gram is vitally important to the entire check collection system, and I urge th at banks continue their efforts to bring all checks into conformity with the program.
