Introduction of Check Image Services
DETAILS
The Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas is pleased to announce the expansion of
Check Image services to the San Antonio Office beginning August 12, 1996.
Check imaging will be available to financial institutions who subscribe to
Image Enhanced Truncation or Image Enhanced MICR Presentment Plus services.
Image technology will enable the Fed to offer an enhanced level of service by improving
the response time for check retrievals and by providing greater access to check informa­
tion. To maximize flexibility, image service options can be used in the combination that
best suits a financial institution’s operation.
The Fed can also capture MICR data, truncate checks, and provide the
options discussed below to institutions for over-the-counter items. Details concerning
this service will be handled on a case-by-case basis. A description of each service is
listed below.
Basic Image Capture -

This service represents the image capture of the front and
back of all Fed processed items. It is required for cus­
tomers who utilize the other image services.
Fees: $0,002 per item (front and back)
$5.00 daily minimum

Individual Image Retrieval -

This service can aid in the return item decision, for signa­
ture verification, or other research purposes. Requested
images can typically be delivered within two hours follow-

8 millimeter tape, 3480 tape, or CD-ROM (including
media fees where applicable).

A financial institution may request that images of certain
types of items be sent on a daily basis. Criteria for selec­
tion include: dollar amount threshold, specific account
numbers, or random sampling. Images can be delivered
via facsimile, or if a one-day delay is acceptable, on PC
diskette, paper, 8 millimeter tape, 3480 tape, or CDROM.
Fees: $0.20* per item (front side only)
$0.25* per item (front and back)
*Plus media fee where applicable

Select Image Bulk Delivery

A financial institution may receive images on certain
types of checks on a bulk-volume media. A typical appli­
cation for this service is if an institution delivers image
statements on selected accounts only. Media options
include: PC diskette, 8 millimeter helical tape, 3480 tape,
or CD-ROM, which will be available on the day after
presentment.
Fees: $0,007 per item (front and back)
$10.00 daily minimum

All Image Bulk Delivery -

With this service, a financial institution can receive an
image file on 3480 tape, 8 millimeter helical tape, or CDROM containing all its Fed processed checks. As with
Select Image Bulk Delivery, media will be available on
the day after presentment.
Fees: $0,005 per item (front and back)
$10.00 daily minimum

Fedline

-3 Parameter Change Requests - A fee will be charged if an institution wants to change its
selection criteria or output media for all check image
services.
Fees: $10.00 per occurrence after installation
Media Charges -

If an image file is delivered on media other than Fedline
or facsimile transmission, there will be a charge per
occurrence. Credit will be given to the customer for each
3480 or 8 millimeter tape return. CD-ROMs or PC dis­
kettes are not returnable.
Fees: $1.00 per PC diskette
$10.00 per 8 millimeter helical tape
$10.00 per 3480 tape
$10.00 per CD-ROM disk
