FUNCTIONAL COST ANALYSIS PROGRAM

TO THE CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER
OF THE FINANCIAL INSTITUTION ADDRESSED:
This year will be the six te e n th year the Functional C ost Analysis
Program has been o ffe r e d in the Eleventh Federal R e serv e D istr ic t.
The
program is now available to all financial institu tions in the D istr ic t on a
voluntary non -cost basis.
The Functional C ost Analysis Program is designed so that all
financial institutions can p ar tic ip a te regardless o f s iz e and s t a f f lim itations.
The program enables participants to com p ile and an alyze incom e and expense
d ata to help m easure the profitability o f the principal banking a c tiv itie s , such
as receivin g d eposits, lending and fee -b a se d s e rv ic e s.
For institu tions that p articip ate, the FCA report provides a number
o f item c o s ts such as the c o s t to process a transit ch eck , a checkin g deposit
and a savings withdrawal as w e ll as to make an in stalm en t loan and to c o lle c t
a paym ent. An im portant fea tu r e o f the report is c om p arative c o s t figures
for financial institu tions m ost sim ilar to the participating institution.
