F ederal Reserve Ba n k o f D allas DALLAS, TEXAS 75222 Circular No. 67-262 D ecem ber 28, 1967 FUNCTIONAL COST ANALYSIS To the Chief Executive Officer of the Member Bank Addressed in the Eleventh Federal Reserve District: The Functional Cost A nalysis Program offered by th is R eserve Bank is close to com p letin g its second year, and w e are now preparing fo r its third year of operation. A s m ost o f you know, th is service is available a t no charge to all m em ber banks in th e E leventh Federal R eserve District. Functional Cost A n alysis is a simplified form of cost accounting w hich will provide participating banks w ith a confidential report o f com parative earnings and costs covering m ajor bank functions fo r a full year. This cost stu dy will enable participants to compare income, expenses, and earnings w ith groups of banks of sim ilar size and deposit structure. Workpapers and instructions fo r collecting and su bm itting 1968 data will be provided. N ew workpapers are in process of being printed, and will be available early in 1968, much sooner than has been possible th e previous tw o years. In th e past, one-day workshops have been held to explain th is service, and th is pro cedure will likely be followed for th e forthcom ing year. You m ay w ish to attend a m eetin g before reaching a decision pertaining to participation in th is program in 1968. Banks th at are already participating m ay send representatives to th ese m eetin gs as well. A postal card is enclosed on w hich you m ay indicate your preference concerning participation in our Functional Cost A n alysis Program during th e com ing year. Please return th e card as prom ptly as possible.
